GREENVILLE, NC – Bicycle sharing service LimeBike will soon offer another way to get around in Greenville. LimeBoards™, stand-up paddleboards (or SUPs) that you can rent using your smartphone, will be available for traversing Greenville’s waterways.
LimeBike spokesperson Phil Witherspoon says “After 7 months of providing LimeBike service in Greenville, our statistics show that many users have attempted to ride the bikes in the local creeks and rivers. This can present challenges.”
According to Lime, the bicycles were designed with only dry land operation in mind.
“I’ve found literally dozens of the bikes stranded in the water around here.” says Bicycle Retrieval Technician, Chris Banks. “College student late for class, decides to take off into the crick, use it as a shortcut. Just doesn’t work.”
Mr. Witherspoon also pointed out that the boards are nice for yoga.
The boards will charge $1 for each half hour ridden. Lime plans to release 150 of the paddleboards into the Tar River by next week.
